Episode 117: FA Cup Bracket, Buster!

Wherein Our Heroes proudly acknowledge their membership in The Alberta Podcast Network, powered by ATB. Four West Brom players decide to “borrow” a taxi during a sojourn in Barcelona, much to the chagrin of Alan Pardew and the local authorities. Wigan monumentally slay the giant that is Manchester City in fifth round FA Cup play and one costly mistake robs Chelsea of victory against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. Also, we just want you to listen to us the way Tessa Virtue looks at Scott Moir.

Episode 49: Portugal. The Men

Portugal1

Wherein Our Heroes recap Europe’s quadrennial showcase by offering kudos to Portugal and their yeoman-like effort in both the group stages and the Euro 2016 Final. Ronaldo’s tears turn from those of desolation to cocky joy; does this give him a leg up on Messi? Did France’s best show up for the ultimate match after carrying a whole nation on their epaulets? We salute the young players who turned heads, Ricardo Quaresma’s olive branch haircut, and the Irish supporters who brought the craic in droves. Also, we continue to question whether the 24-team format adds anything other than too many draws.

Young Gaffers at The Ship and Anchor!!!!!!!

TYG-LivePodcast_20160626_Poster-noBleedFor years, we and many footy fans in Alberta have known that there is nary a better place to watch a match than Calgary’s own Ship and Anchor Pub. We are extremely stoked to say we’ll be there this coming Sunday, June 26th, to catch the Euro Round of 16 action and record some streeter interviews with you. We’ve spent many mornings and afternoons watching Prem, World Cup, Euro, and Champions League matches at our favourite place in town, and we want to hear what you think of the Euros so far! See you this weekend, Calgary!

Episode 47: Euro 2016, We Can Dig It

Joachim-Low-scratch-and-sniff

Wherein Our Heroes offer a proliferation of wonders concerning UEFA’s quadrennial showcase. Was Puma’s yarn really defective, or was this a ploy to get the French in the book? Does L’Équipe need to back off in their criticism of Les Bleus? Joachim Löw blames “adrenaline and concentration” on a double scratch ’n sniff, we are definitely not having the violence that has marred the group stage, and Croatia’s midfield shows it can keep pace with Spain’s best. Also, we’ll be at The Ship & Anchor Pub on June 26 – don’t miss it!

Episode 46: The Young Gaffers Euro 2016 Spectacular, Part 2

Euro2016

Wherein Our Heroes and Brendan once again convene to complete their Euro 2016 preview for all of Gafferdom. Groups D and E are rife with intrigue while Group F seems to be the dud of the bunch. Will Spain sizzle like chorizo in a hot pan or will their form cool like a fresh gazpacho? We waffle on whether Belgium can secure top spot in Group E, or if the Italians can defy their role as non-favourites. Will Iceland live up to expectations as the darlings of the tournament? Also, Marouane Fellaini adopts a Valderrama look, and we dig.

Episode 45: The Young Gaffers Euro 2016 Spectacular, Part 1

1966143_s2

Wherein Our Heroes are joined by Brendan, Wielder of The Whistle of Never-Ending Substitutions, to discuss prognostications and predictions for Groups A, B, and C. We think France could be magnifique in front of their home supporters, wonder if Wayne Rooney will spell doom for England’s attacking three, and feel Thomas Müller is a candidate for das Golden Boot. The new tournament format is titillating, Wales may surprise, and the Swiss likely won’t miss. Also, Mario Gómez and his slick locks may just prove decisive for Germany.

Episode 37: Making Plans For Nigel de Jong

Nigel

Wherein Our Heroes flog the dead mule that is MLS officiating, question Louis van Gaal’s personnel choices versus Spurs, and sing Andy Carroll’s praises. Also, we dust off the Wheel o’ Segments…wherever will it land? Gary Lineker is made to write lines for his blind love, Patrick Vieira serves up some humble pie, and Michael Michael gets a nod for service above and beyond the call of esthetics.
